Practical Ways to Make Online Studies Easier

When studying online, the studying itself isn’t always the hard part. Personally, I have found that the most difficult part is not the amount of work, but rather how well you can manage yourself while doing it.

Figuring out how to structure your study time, learning how to fend off procrastination, and doing your very best to make sure that you get through all the work before exam season; it’s  difficult at the best of times.

We all know setting up a schedule and sticking to it is important. We know what to do, but oftentimes students struggle with the smaller details. But there are ways to make things easier.

So, here are a few small tips to try that might make your days as an online student a bit easier.

Number 1: Change location.

A change of scenery can help immensely.

During Lockdown, staying in the same small room, doing the same things over and over again; it drove me to insanity. Life felt stale and repetitive; a small little purgatory in which all I do is study and research and write assignments. But changing locations every so often would help ward off the madness.

Sometimes the best thing for your productivity is to pack up your things and work from a local coffee shop for the day. Sometimes moving from your bedroom to the kitchen might make all of the difference.

Keep life interesting by spicing up where you work. It can make the hours of study feel a little less maddening. Bonus points if you add more sunlight and fresh air to the equation.

Number 2: Break up hours of study with small productive tasks.

Resting is great, but I have found that taking breaks to do small productive things instead of scrolling through social media on my phone makes a big difference.

So break up your studies with 10 minute breaks to make the bed, do the dishes, fold a few clothes, play with your dog, or maybe do some stretching or exercises instead.

Doing this will prevent your mind from becoming dull from lack of variety and stimulation. Taking a ten minute break to do a short workout or some stretches will also help refresh your mind and help you focus when you come back to studying or attending classes.

Long study sessions can be improved considerably by making even just minor changes. Sometimes a small tweak is all that’s needed to freshen up the room as much as your brain. Maybe add a vanilla-scented candle, open another window, or go sit in the garden. Get creative! Try new things and have some fun with it. Who knows? You might even start looking forward to studying.
