Welcome to Imperium

Welcome to Imperium University! We are so excited to have you start your journey with us. In order to help you get settled in, here is a brief guide on some of the basics.

Notes, Video, Quiz

All your subjects will be divided into either 15 or 30 weeks. In general, each week will have a Notes section, a Video section, and an informal Quiz section. Go through all of these every week for best results.

Syllabi and Assessments

All the subjects you take have a syllabus document. Be sure to read through it and especially check the "Assessment at a glance" section to get an idea of the assignments and exams you will have, as well as for guidance when writing an assignment. Most year-long subjects will have assessments structured as follows (this can vary, so be sure to check each subject to avoid surprises!):

  • Assignment 1 (A multiple choice paper of fifty questions that you will complete directly on the subject page. This one is due on the same day it's released.)
  • Assignment 2 (A written/typed assignment which will be released the day before it is due.)
  • Mid-Year Exam
  • Assignment 3 (A research assignment that will be released a week before the due date.)
  • Final Exam

Assignments are always released at midnight and you will always have until 23:30pm South African time on the day they are due to upload them. Remember that the Imperium website operates on the UTC time zone, also known as GMT, which is currently two hours before South African time, so keep that in mind. However, the deadline for exam and assignment uploads is still 23:30pm South African time (GMT+2). On that note, let's talk about how to upload your completed papers.

Uploading Assessments

For written assignments and exams, there will always be a Question Paper, an Answer Book, and an Upload Portal. Carefully read through ALL the instructions on the papers, as they will tell you what is expected of you and exactly how to scan in and name your documents.

Once you've done this, you will find the Upload Portal in the relevant assignment/exam section of the subject page in the student portal. There is a 10mb size limit, so be sure to compress your PDF using an online tool like pdfcompressor.com if necessary. We recommend downloading PDFSam Basic, which is a free tool that will also allow you to merge and split you documents.

If you ever have any issues or questions about uploading your assignments, don't hesitate to send an email to exams@imperium-uni.com.

Check the Student Forum!

Now that we've covered assessments, have you checked out the Student Forum yet? That's where you'll find important dates for your cycle, useful documents such as the Manual Submission Form, as well as explanations for using the Harvard Referencing Method.

That should be enough information for now to give you an idea of what to expect. We'll just leave you with a cheat sheet on how to get the most out of your studies below - don't take those tips for granted! Congratulations on starting this journey, we hope you have a great time with us!
