Great YouTube Channels for Students and Lifelong Learners - Part 1

YouTube might be filled with a lot stupid stuff, clickbait, and ads, but it's also chock-full of amazing channels and videos that will expand your mind and entertain you in equal parts. So without further ado (if you caught that reference your knowledge of Geography is fantastic), let's jump into it:

Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell

Their videos are as interesting as they are gorgeous, and explore a wide variety of science topics and questions, explaining them "with optimistic nihilism". Their goal: "to make science look beautiful. Because it is beautiful."

TED-Ed

In the same vein as Kurzgesagt, but completely different. Each video is a short lesson narrated and animated in attention-grabbing style that will keep your interest piqued. The range of topics are seemingly endless, from the basics of quantum mechanics to poetry, from mythology and riddles to the power of nature - and plenty more!

Geography Now

A charmingly entertaining channel that aims to do a geographic profile on every country in the world, alphabetically. Currently on hiatus due to personal and pandemic-related reasons, the creator and his team have at the time of writing gotten up to Singapore - so there's a huge amount of videos for you to jump into already. So go learn more about that country that you heard about and vaguely remember but have no idea where it is and always thought you should google (assuming it starts with A to Singapore).

CrashCourse

A great educational channel started by brothers Hank and John Green (SciShow, The Fault in Our Stars), whose goal is for everyone to have access to high-quality education videos for free. These courses are especially great for supplemental studying for high school and university students, but will interest any lifelong learner. Topic variety is vast, with courses on World History, Biology, Engineering, Linguistics, Psychology, Sociology, Anatomy and Physiology, and many more!

This is just a tiny handful of absolute gems to be found on YouTube. Due to that, this article is officially Part 1 and next week we'll explore a few more channels that will enrich all that time you waste - I mean, spend, online.
